Frequently Asked Questions
Who do we treat?
We have two major specialties, neuro rehab & strength. This includes individuals recently or long-ago diagnosed with a neurological condition or injury, those experiencing pain in the pursuit of strength including competitive powerlifters, and those looking to begin a strength regimen.
We see patients in clinic or at-home as needed.
Here are some recent examples of patients at Headstrong!
✅ Low back and shoulder pain in the context of a progressive neurological condition;
✅ Dizziness and neck pain after motor vehicle accident;
✅ Shoulder pain performing the bench press, preventing a return to competitive powerlifting;
✅ An adult with osteoporosis wanting to start strength training with sound technique using both free weights and machines at their local gym;
✅ Efficiency with walking, a daily training regimen, and customized wheelchair prescription for an individual with multiple sclerosis;

How do I book an appointment?
Three easy options to schedule:
You can call or text us at 269-205-3395
E-mail info@headstrongrehab.com
Schedule online with us at headstrong.janeapp.com.
If you'd like to talk with Dr. Jess to see if Headstrong is right for you, call us first!
Do I need a referral?
Not always.
Michigan is a direct access state, meaning that we are able to see patients for physical therapy without a referral; however, some insurance plans may require a referral before reimbursing therapy services. If you elect to use insurance, check with your insurance company if they require a physician's referral. If they don't, you can see us without one.
Is Headstrong accessible?
Wheelchair Accessibility
Our clinic is designed to be wheelchair accessible. To enter the clinic, park in a space towards the right end of the building, closest to the Mattress Firm. There are handicapped spaces outside the Mattress Firm. The ramp is to the right of the Mattress Firm. When arriving at the clinic door, you may knock if you need help with the door.
The clinic has plenty of open space to facilitate navigation with a wheelchair to the bathroom, located in the back. While the bathroom is ADA compliant, it is small; if you need assistance in the bathroom, we are available to help.
Where are you located?
Our address is 5601 W Main Street, Suite 5, in Kalamazoo, MI.
We are right off of Main St. & US-131, on the south side of Main St, in the building right next to the Goodwill.
You can access our lot by turning southbound off of Main St at the Maple Street traffic light. We share a building with other businesses including our neighbors H&R Block and Mattress Firm which are viewable from the road. There are plenty of parking spaces out front, including handicapped spaces in front of the Mattress Firm.
Can I bring family, caregivers, or friends?
Of course! If you would like family present to help coordinate care, please feel free to bring them. We can all learn together, and if you have a caregiver, we can better learn how to best accommodate your therapy needs, both in-clinic and at home.
What if I need to reschedule/cancel my appointment?
If giving more than 24 hours notice, you can change/cancel your appointments through your account on janeapp.com, or shoot us a text/e-mail. If the appointment is within 24 hours, please text us directly at 269-205-3395.
We understand that life happens; we don't charge fees for late cancellations or no-shows, but repeated late cancellations and no-shows may result in discharge from the clinic, and cancellation of future appointments.
What should I wear?
We are an exercise-driven clinic; therefore, we recommend wearing whatever you feel most comfortable in--sneakers/tennis shoes and comfortable clothes that you don't mind sweating in. For lifters, please bring your gym bag/equipment and wear your typical gym attire. We have a private room and bathroom that you may use to change clothes if coming from work, etc.
